The research project WieBauin is striving towards the goal of preserving the natural resources of rural areas and finding ways to use alternative sources for building parts and materials within the framework of the funding project Stadt-Land-Plus. Empty buildings which are unusable by their respective owners are highly suitable for the extraction and recycling of building parts as well as the recovery of building materials.
WIEBAUIN is developing new procedures and instruments to structure the resource system of building materials between urban and rural areas in a way that generates ecological and economical advantages for the region. The basis for this research is the county Darmstadt-Dieburg with the municipality Münster (Hesse) and Otzberg as well as the city Darmstadt.
An innovative, GIS-based building and material cadastre will simplify the process to identify recyclable building parts in the future. A fitting business model will be developed to market these resource-gentle building materials while integrating the stakeholders of the region.
