Hydraulic engineering and geodetic excursion 2024
2024/08/09
In the footsteps of Mr. von Ribbeck auf Ribbeck, a group of students explored the Havelland region as part of the 2024 Hydraulic Engineering and Geodetic Excursion in the week from 05.08. to 09.08.2024. In keeping with the interdisciplinary nature of the excursion, there was plenty to experience and learn, not least thanks to the students' own presentations. A stopover on the outward journey provided the first highlight: a guided tour of the Bauhaus estate in Dessau-Törten gave an insight into how the urban development of tomorrow was conceived yesterday. Starting from Milow, where the group stayed, the next day the bus took them to Potsdam. In addition to exciting lectures at the Potsdam Geo Research Center, the tour group was treated to an interesting guided tour of the Telegrafenberg and a visit to the Great Refractor. At half-time on Wednesday, the aim was to explore the Havel and its tributaries from the best possible angle. After the challenging trip, the day was rounded off with a barbecue. Thursday morning was dedicated to hydraulic engineering with a visit to the Magdeburg waterway junction, including the Spar lock and the Rothensee ship lift.
In the afternoon, the interfaces between geodesy and hydraulic engineering were explored in the Elbe floodplains near Fischbeck, which were affected by a devastating dyke breach in 2013 and are currently undergoing a land consolidation process. The last stop on Friday was the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel with its impressive water features, before the group finally returned to Darmstadt. We would like to thank all our local partners and look forward to next year!
