Climate-friendly development of urban and rural areas

Panel discussion and lecture on Future Day Bad Kreuznach

2023/04/25

On 22 April 2023, the Omas4Future initiative in Bad Kreuznach hosted the “Future Day” at the central Kornmarkt. The initiative is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection for its commitment to education for sustainable development. Numerous associations and groups from the field of climate protection took part in the Future Day, including NABU, the Climate Community Bad Kreuznach, the Environmental Campus Birkenfeld, the local climate protection manager and a representative from the Competence Centre for Climate Change Impacts Rhineland-Palatinate.

Our research assistant Benjamin D. Kraff was invited to the Klimatalk and for a lecture on the climate-friendly development of town and country.

In the climate talk, which was attended by various representatives, from the managing director of the local real estate development company to a student of the Fridays4Future initiative, the current status of climate protection was discussed. Other topics were the measures necessary for climate protection, the contribution of the individual, but also the necessary political action.

With his presentation on the climate-friendly development of cities and rural areas, Benjamin D. Kraff showed how the transformation process can be shaped in an urban environment, but also in rural areas. In addition to the responsibility of the municipalities, the lecture focused on concepts that have already been successfully implemented in practice, technical solutions, but also social ways to achieve them. It was made clear in the lecture that the goal can only be achieved with a joint development of the solution path by politics, society and stakeholders.
