3rd place for TU Darmstadt team

2023/02/21

The TU Darmstadt team achieved 3rd place in the nationwide Engineers Without Borders Challenge.

This semester, the association Engineers without Borders once again called for the Germany-wide challenge. The goal was to develop a playground for schoolyards in Uganda with a limited budget, taking into account social as well as technical conditions. In addition to educational and health aspects, the successful realisation of the project had to be ensured through the choice of suitable materials, ease of implementation and durability.

Numerous universities and about 800 students took part in the competition throughout Germany. At our department, we joined the call with the module “Interdisciplinary Development Project for Infrastructure Solutions” and our interdisciplinary team was able to convince with their concept. The three students Gerrit Ecknig (Mechatronics), Alessa Heiden (Civil Engineering) and Yola König (Sociology) developed a modular concept that allows the installation and changing of different learning and play equipment. At the same time, it can also be built and supervised in cooperation with pupils and teachers. At the final event on 10 February, they were able to convince the jury and, together with two other teams, achieved 3rd place in the competition.

We congratulate our students on this success and wish them many more creative and innovative projects on their way to university!
