Successful workshops in the GeoSen project

2023/10/09

The GeoSen project (Artificial Intelligence and Geospatial Data to Raise Awareness for Sustainable Spatial Development) aims to advance the digitalisation of local development processes for sustainable rural areas and Smart Villages through the use of remote sensing data. To this end, the Chair of Land Management cooperates with the Chair of Land Management and Landscape Architecture at the H. Kołłątaj University of Agriculture in Krakow, headed by Prof. Józef Hernik, as well as the two remote sensing companies CORAmaps from Germany and GEOMATIC from Poland.

In order to promote scientific exchange and strengthen cooperation during the project phases, a first face-to-face meeting of the project partners took place at TU Darmstadt from 17 to 19 July 2023. Workshops at the Lichtwiese campus served, among other things, to plan joint approaches to solutions. A tour of the ESA site with presentations on the Sentinel programme and an excursion to the beautiful Rhine Valley region around Mainz-Bingen, under the friendly guidance of Mr Feldner of the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture, successfully rounded off the event days.

For the second meeting from 20 to 22 September, invitations were extended to Krakow, Poland. The first day of the workshop was held on the grounds of H. Kołłątaj University, a converted farmstead with a successful interplay of historical and modern architecture. Here, the latest findings from the project were shared and discussions on further cooperation were initiated. The TU Darmstadt team spent the afternoon on the trail of historic Krakow in the “Rynek Underground” museum. The participants ended the day in the rooftop restaurant with a view over the Vistula.

On the second and third day, excursions to the municipalities of Wielka Wieś and Michałowice in northern Krakow followed with lectures and guided tours of the municipal areas. The workshop days were rounded off by the excellent Polish cuisine.
