The study programme “Sustainable Urban Development” celebrates its 10th anniversary

2022/10/25

Ten years ago, the international degree programme “Sustainable Urban Development” (SUD) was launched at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) in cooperation with the TU Darmstadt. As a joint-degree Master's programme, SUD has also been offered in Darmstadt since 2019 and is becoming increasingly popular in this country. The very practice-oriented degree programme teaches interdisciplinary approaches that provide students from various disciplines with expertise and skills for integrative, inclusive as well as sustainable urban development.

On 20 October, the VGU invited SUD students, SUD alumni as well as Prof. Linke and his team to the 10th anniversary celebration in Ho Chi Minh City. In a very festive ambience, they looked back on thirteen years of activities to establish the degree programme and celebrated the tenth anniversary with delicious Vietnamese delicacies and a colourful programme. Students pitched, rapped or sang innovative solutions for urban development in a hackathon. Furthermore, students sang the self-written SUD song on stage. Professors, lecturers and other staff members were introduced and honoured for their long-standing support. Above all, however, many conversations arose between students of different nationalities and years with teachers and professors, reflecting what distinguishes the programme: Intercultural exchange for a common goal: Sustainable Urban Development.
