2nd Symposium on Space Law

2025/03/07

Space debris, space traffic management, climate-neutral space travel and many other exciting topics were discussed at the 2nd Symposium on Space Law.

Our working group had the honour and pleasure of attending this year's Symposium on Space Law on 28 February, which was organised by the Space Coordinator of the State of Hesse, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johann-Dietrich Wörner. The continuation of the event, which took place for the first time last year, shows that space law is more topical than ever. The symposium provided a platform for dialogue on current developments and regulatory requirements in the field of space law. Discussions included the work on a German and a European space law, the legal framework for the utilisation of resources on celestial bodies and current developments in the field of space traffic management. In addition, the space segment, control segment and ground segment were discussed as critical infrastructure and insights were provided into the practice of these critical infrastructures.

At the event, which took place at the Hessian State Chancellery in Wiesbaden, Darmstadt was strongly represented as a ‘space city’ (among other things through the headquarters of EUMETSAT and ESOC). Our participation in this symposium gave us valuable insights. We look forward to continuing to keep up to date with the latest developments in shaping the legal framework for the utilisation of space.
