The Remote Sensing and Image Analysis group has been working closely with the artist Lukas Einsele for three years. Now the newspaper Echo reports on the latest event.
The art project “Derive Scan – The Pond” by Lukas Einsele examines the traces of war in Darmstadt's city forest. Over 40 bomb craters from the Second World War have been documented in the Fasanerie, many of which have been overgrown by nature. The project aims to raise awareness of the history and human destinies associated with these sites. Einsele brings people together to reflect on the meaning of the craters, regardless of their personal experiences of refuge and displacement. As part of the event, Mona Goebel, a PhD student at the department, uses the self-built mobile backpack scanner to capture the geometry of the crater and the people, thus creating a 3D point cloud.
