The aim of this project is to automatically generate semantically enriched, topologially correct BIM building models from mobile mapping point clouds.

Scan2BIM, i.e. the automated reconstruction of building models from 3D sensor data like mobile mapping point clouds is a very active field of research driven by the increasing demand in building industry, architecture and facility management for accurate and up-to-date BIM models for existing buildings.

A special research focus is set on exploring indoor/outdoor transitions, on incorporating data from other sensor modalities like e.g. thermal cameras and on integrating the building model reconstruction into the mobile mapping process (i.e. on-the-fly modeling).
