Participation in the European Conference on Synthetic Aperture Radar

The European Conference on Synthetic Aperture Radar (EUSAR) takes place every two years. This year, researchers from the SAR community met in Garching near Munich. TU Darmstadt was represented by Dorota Iwaszczuk, Professor in the Group of Remote Sensing and Image Analysis, and PhD student Katrin Krzepek. They presented a poster on the topic “Monitoring the water table depth with Sentinel-1 intensity time series for peatlands in Germany”, on which a conference paper will also be published soon.

The poster and the conference paper deal with the question of the extent to which the moisture content of peat soils can be derived from radar satellite data. The results of the analysis show that a strong correlation between the satellite data and the groundwater levels can be measured for the two peatlands in northern Germany that were analysed.
