Moon GIS
Creating an online map of the moon

The creation of an online Lunar Activity Map of actual landers and rovers, impact zones, and planned missions is currently conducted in corporation with the Lunar Resources Registry UG (LRR).

The Lunar Resources Registry UG (LRR) is a transparent registry of existing public (e.g. Space Agencies) and planned commercial activity on the surface of the Moon.

Operations of LRR are split into front-end (developing Lunar maps) and back-end (Registry database, internal resources maps).

LRR is also developing and updating transparent online maps of activity, plus resources and infrastructure on the Moon’s surface; including development zones and potential resources locations. The growing number and variety of Lunar operations, landing locations, the increasing knowledge about resources on the Moon, and the availability of higher resolution imagery, will be added to the LRR.

A prototype of the interactive map is presented below. The map allows users to view different kinds of currently available registrations. Each map symbol provides, for example, additional information about mission name, landing date and technical classification. Further details concerning mission details are available via reference to the responsible space agency.
