IGS station Addis Ababa University (ADIS)


In a joint cooperation of the Geophysical Observatory of Addis Ababa University Ethiopia, Bundesamt fuer Kartographie und Geodaesie Frankfurt am Main Germany, and the Chair of Physical Geodesy and Satellite Geodesy (PSGD) of Technische Universitaet Darmstadt Germany (PSGD), a new permanent station has been set up at the Addis Ababa University premises. It is the first of its kind in Ethiopia and has been accepted as IGS station on August 10, 2007 (IGS mail 5627).

A new monument has been built (see photo) at the premises of the Geophysical Observatory and the station is up and running since June 29, 2007.

On March 11, 2008, the receiver at ADIS has been exchanged (new: Topcon Legacy E) so that ADIS now tracks GPS and Glonass satellites.

Data of ADIS is available at the IGS data centers, and ITRF2014 coordinates are available in the ITRF2014 solution published on the respective ITRF2014 website at the IGN.
