Satellite Geodesy is dealing with the observation and measurement of the Earth from space. Methods of celestial mechanics are used for orbit determination. The most widely known systems of Geodesy are the global navigation satellite systems like GPS, GLONASS or in the future Galileo. For their application accurate models for orbit calculation, and calculation of time and coordinates with millimeter accuracy are developed. Geodesists are occupied with the development of software for the design and analysis of satellite data. Other important systems are the altimetry satellites for the monitoring of oceans and their currents, the gravity field satellites GRACE and GOCE for the measurement of the Earth gravity field and the remote sensing satellites
