Peatland research from space – PeatSens project start February 2024

The PeatSens project is focussing on estimating emissions of the greenhouse gas methane from rewetted peatlands.
The project is part of the Integrated Greenhouse Gas Monitoring System for Germany (ITMS). Together with the Landscape Ecology group at the University of Rostock, the Remote Sensing and Image Analysis group is working on collecting data directly from the peatland sites and estimating relevant ecological parameters using satellites and drones.
The project has a duration of three years and started on 01.02.2024. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). More information can be found here .
